As part of the of the Western Turner Syncline 2 Project, Whittens was engaged to deliver detailed earthworks and concrete structures for the new process plant, including ROM bin vault, dump slabs, primary crusher, drive and transfer stations, takeup and reeling stations and the overland conveyor footings.
Whittens installed three conveyor tunnels (total length 170m, 8m diameter) which served as road crossings for conveyor belts underneath a haul road. During the project, Whittens poured approximately 9,000m3 of concrete and completed 21,000m3 of earthworks.
The project included the installation of the steel arches for each tunnel as well as the construction of the concrete strip footing and raft slab.
